Video is great… but photography remains essential
It's true that video has become an essential medium today. On social media, video is consumed more by our audience, and it generates interactions rarely seen with photo galleries. But despite this surge in popularity, photography remains a crucial marketing tool, especially in retail.
Why? Because it's everywhere. It adorns our website, structures our newsletters, and is present in our advertising campaigns on the Meta network. Yes, video can be beneficial for a transactional site, but in the vast majority of cases, photos are still the most widely used medium in e-commerce.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And what's more, its small size means it doesn't slow down the site's loading time — which is far from a minor detail when you consider the user experience.
When it comes to newsletters , photos are the dominant format. Integrating a video is practically impossible (except via an animated GIF, but even then, it's large and rarely optimal). With photos, you maintain visual impact without compromising loading speed.
And what about meta campaigns? Yes, video is often highlighted, but photos continue to perform very well. They capture attention quickly, are easy to scroll through, and allow you to convey an emotion or intention at a glance.
When image defines the brand
Initially, we had a humorous, dynamic, and youthful approach. It was always done in a studio, on sets built from scratch with artificial lighting. The results were very satisfactory, but today, I can say that something was missing… I think our audience didn't fully identify with our campaigns.
Yes, there were some reactions here and there, but never commensurate with the effort invested. Our campaigns were superb, aesthetically pleasing, but as I said earlier, something was missing.
A pivotal encounter: Chaz enters the scene
We've known Charles, aka Chaz, for almost 17 years, but it was only a few months ago that we collaborated with him for the first time as a photographer. A little backstory: Charles was our very first employee at our first company, Lubie, which specialized in digital creation and branding.
Over the years, Charles has become much more than a colleague: he's a friend, and even the godfather of David's daughter. In short, Charles is family.
From Costa Rica to Sherbrooke: a different perspective
Charles began his photography career after working at an agency. His passion for surfing and yoga led him to spend several months a year in Costa Rica. During his stays there, he combined business with pleasure: his passion for photography and his enjoyment of connecting with people. He captured portraits in natural light with his film camera.
Gradually, thanks to his talent, more and more people wanted to do photo shoots with him. He built a solid portfolio, and brands began approaching him for commercial shoots in enchanting locations all over the world.
A photoshoot, a turning point
Whenever Charles comes back to Quebec, he always makes time to visit us. Last time, he offered to bring back some products for a photoshoot in Costa Rica, as part of our "Summer Sale" campaign. We immediately agreed, and it became our first real project together.
When we received the photos, we were blown away by the quality of the result. The framing, the carefully orchestrated scenes, and his aesthetic eye ensure that the final product is both professional and authentic. The emotion shines through the camera and is guaranteed to reach its audience. It's impossible to remain unmoved.

Authenticity, emotion, and creativity: the keys to success
First, the casting : Charles has an incredible talent for spotting unique faces, straight out of a fashion magazine. He knows how to put his models at ease and showcase the product with just the right poses and angles. The overall feel perfectly matches our brief, and the products are clearly highlighted.
Finally, Charles has a highly developed creative mind. He always comes up with new ideas, or he improves upon existing concepts. Working with him is truly a pleasure.
Now it's your turn to discover his world
