If you thought it was easy to choose her panties, think again. After being overwhelmed by the number of cuts of underwear , you also have the option of fabric. Modal, polyamide, polyester, cotton, viscose, bamboo, nylon, spandex… Each has its advantages and characteristics. Here is a little guide to help you surf in the world of textiles.
Natural fibers
Natural fabrics include more traditional textiles such as cotton, wool or linen. Their raw properties give them less strength than synthetic fibers. This is why several manufacturers mix them with the latter in order to reinforce their solidity.
Cotton
The most common textile is cotton. It has a wide range of properties: cozy, insulating, heat resistant. It can absorb up to 8.5% of its weight in water. Not very fragile, we love it for its softness. It's a gift for our skin: comfortable, breathable, hypoallergenic. However, cotton used alone, without being combined with another fiber, is rigid.
Given their great absorption, cotton underwear is not recommended for athletes. They would keep the humidity making it uncomfortable during physical activities.
Benefits
- Low cost
- Hypoallergenic
- Breathability
- Support
Disadvantages
- Tendency to shrink
- Fragility
- Fading of dyes over time
- Hydrophilic power during activities
Bamboo
Bamboo is an elastic natural fiber. A cloud of comfort, this fabric makes you want to wrap yourself inside and curl up in front of a good little movie. Cool to the touch, it is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. It is 5 times more absorbent than cotton which allows the skin to breathe even better! Durable, bamboo fiber is a must-have for men looking for softness.
Benefits
- Antibacterial and hypoallergenic characteristics
- Candy
- Absorption
Disadvantages
- Polluting manufacture of rayon from bamboo
- Hydrophilic power during activities
Synthetic fibers
Synthetic fibers are obtained following the synthesis of chemical compounds which make them polluting, but resistant fabrics.
Viscose
Even though viscose is a synthetic fiber, its natural origin gives it hybrid properties. Like cotton, this fabric is not very elastic, breathable and absorbent. The chemical treatment of viscose gives it a silky, fluid and resistant effect.
Benefits
- Breathability
- Absorption
Disadvantages
- Heavy crease
- Lack of elasticity
Modal
Modal is a natural fiber created artificially from beech wood. It is actually a type of viscose. This fabric is twice as thin as cotton, which makes it even more absorbent and elastic. Lightweight, it offers great comfort and remarkable softness. When washed, it resists limescale. This textile has a luxurious, shiny and silky appearance.
Benefits
- light fiber
- Significant resistance to shrinkage
- Extreme softness
Disadvantages
- Elasticity reduces support
- Absorption of moisture during activities
Polyamide
Polyamide type fabrics are made from plastic. Since it is synthetic, it is strong and robust while being stretchy. Soft and flexible, it resists water well.
Benefits
- Impermeability
- Significant tear resistance
- Sweat and moisture wicking
Disadvantages
- Polluting fiber
- Fading in the sun
- higher cost
- Heat brittleness
Nylon
Polyamide, nylon is a synthetic fiber derived from plastic which is very poorly absorbent and dries very quickly. Soft, stretchy and resistant, it is frequently used for sportswear.
Benefits
- Fast drying
- Solidity
- Abrasion resistance
Disadvantages
- Heat brittleness
- Polluting material
Polyester
Also plastic-based, polyester is the most common textile in the fashion world. Resistance to water, friction and environmental conditions, quick drying and lightness are many qualities of this fabric. Often appreciated by athletes, its flexibility allows great freedom of movement.
Benefits
- Resistance to sun and scratches
- Preservation of its shine
- Fast drying
- Flexibility
Disadvantages
- Polluting fiber
- Tendency to stick to the skin
- Less sweat absorption
Acrylic
The acrylic fabric is recognized for the comfort it provides and for its lightness. Clothing that contains acrylic is soft, silky and has insulating properties. Easy to care for, this fabric is supple and does not wrinkle.
It is a fiber that is mainly used in combination with cotton, wool.
Benefits
- Candy
- Comfort
- Insulating properties
Disadvantages
- Lower durability
- Polluting fiber
- Preservation of odors
Spandex
The spandex of its English name is commonly called élasthane or lycra in French. This synthetic fiber is renowned for its elasticity. It is always combined with other textiles. In addition to being silky, comfortable and form-fitting, Lycra is resistant to water, chlorine and bacteria.
Benefits
- Phenomenal resistance to stretching, sun and various substances
- Return to original shape
- Fast drying
Disadvantages
- Allergenic fabric
- Increased risk of infections and fungal infections
- Polluting fiber
Microfiber
Microfiber provides remarkable comfort. Used for sportswear, this fiber allows perspiration to evaporate during intense activities and wicks away moisture. Very breathable, it is heat resistant in addition to being light and durable.
Benefits
- Comfort and breathability of the garment
- Heat resistance
Disadvantages
- Polluting fiber
- High cost
The use of each fabric
So you understand that depending on your daily activities, the choice of fabrics for your underwear will not be the same.
For athletes, microfiber and modal are the preferred textiles since they are very breathable, allow perspiration to evaporate more easily and dry quickly.
On the seductive side, viscose or polyester fibers are in order with their molding effect which emphasizes the curves of the body.
For men who favor comfort, we recommend bamboo or cotton.

Merci
